Bambi’s Mother

Yesterday evening we were driving slowly around a windy road in a heavily forested area. As we rounded a corner we saw a Mama deer with her two older fawns. As one started to make its its way into the street, we witnessed the mother actually jump on the baby and push it behind her – getting her fawn to safety while putting herself in harms way. Luckily we were going slow enough to stop and wait for them all to right themselves and turn back into the woods.

I was in awe of her protective act of devotion. Don’t tell me animals feel any different about their young than we do…
