"her pleasure in the walk must arise from the exercise and the day, from the view of the last smiles of the year upon the tawny leaves and withered hedges, and from repeating to herself some few of the thousand poetical descriptions extant of autumn--that season of peculiar and inexhaustible influence on the mind of taste and tenderness--that season which has drawn from every poet worthy of being read some attempt at description, or some lines of feeling." - jane austen, persuasion

I'm only about 1/2 way through this book. I have to keep rereading sections and pages because #brainfog. Also, the prose are quite delectable and I really enjoy the way they feel in my mouth.

This morning, as I was reading, I thought, "This book is beautiful. Of course, I haven't completed it yet, so I don't have a full opinion - but I like the way it flows. Sentence upon sentence building a story - seemingly, effortless. I wonder if it's just easier for some people?" I've been in the process of writing several books. It's actually a bit comical because they will all likely be ready around the same time. But, it's really not as easy and effortless as some might think.

I used to be a real literary snob. I would only read (and write) nonfiction and poetry. And then my world opened up and I delved into fiction for an escape. I then became inspired to write fiction and soon realized I had a lot to learn. World building. Character building. Plot. An interesting plot that flows together and keeps the attention of the reader. Having to delete entire scenes or characters that just weren't working right. Plot that didn't move at just the right pace. Not writing in a passive voice... These days, even when I read a book that just didn't work for me, I can still praise the author. Because I understand the labor and love and dedication that went into writing it. The only snobbery I still hold is regarding self-publishing vs traditional publishing - but I'm an ever evolving person. Once I'm ready to publish, my views on this may change as well. 😜

But seriously, so much respect ❣ 📸 IG @chillingadventuresofaginger

Yesterday was a beautiful day. The sun was stretching her warmth like limbs after a long period of hibernation. The birds were singing the day away and a symphony of different chirps and caws were echoing from tall peaks of pine.

I opened all the windows and front door and allowed the breeze to move through the house in a beautiful spring waltz - moving out the stale energy of winter and replacing it with the fresh buds of hope - waking like a newborn babe whose eyes haven't yet focused on the vast world around them.

I was on the phone catching up with a dear friend when suddenly a tiny bird flew into the house - darting straight for the kitchen. I got off the phone, wondering how I was going to persuade and direct the tiny bird back into the great outdoors.
I moved very slowly as to not startle or frighten the bird. It was perched on the kitchen windowsill. I noticed how tiny and fragile it was with tail feathers that looked something like a dream. It looked at me, chirped twice, and instinctively flew back out the way it came.
The whole experience lasted only moments but felt so sacred. It was so quick, in fact, that it held the magic and mystery of a dream. I don't know what kind of bird it was and I didn't stop to look up the "spiritual" significance, like I once may have done. Instead, what came was a small whisper reciting Emily Dickinson, "Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul..." 📸 Marisa Mulligan

1. I overdid it last week. I had 3 doctors appointments, countless insurance calls, went to a friend's surprise birthday party, and attended a BBQ with friends. While I enjoyed myself immensely AND will FINALLY be receiving the supplies for my c-pap, it left me utterly exhausted and fatigued. The last 2 days have primarily consisted of sleep, rest, and lots and lots of heat.

2. I woke up this morning with clarity as though I've just been rescued from a rolling fog adrift a lonely and tumultuous sea.

3. In my coma of exhaustion, a plot that I've been struggling with came to life and worked itself out. I'm excited to dive back into the story - back into the writing - after taking a month long hiatus as inspiration became elusive.
4. My last few posts (on Facebook) weren't very "positive," though they consisted of my current struggles with depression and where I've been. I had a lot of fear around posting - especially so publically. Yet, as someone who prides myself on living my life outloud, I chose to share and it felt vulnerable. It was uncomfortable. I flayed open my heart for all to witness and see. I worried about how I would be received. While I received an outpouring of love, 12 people chose to unfollow me. I will not take this personally.
5. I hate cliches and yet here I am. The sun will always rise, no matter how dark the night. A rainbow will always follow the storm. There is always a path, a way out from the dark night of the soul. Sometimes we have to stand still long enough to allow our eyes to adjust. It's like stepping into a lake. The water is murky so long as we move. In stillness comes clarity. In stillness, we will see the constellations mapped across our hearts, leading our souls back home. 📸 IG @tinathelen

I've been binge-watching this show on Netflix (all 3 seasons) and have really been enjoying studying the history of Queen Elizabeth II. And I can say, with confidence, that the show is historically accurate and follows real events very closely.
If you enjoy historical dramas, I highly recommend giving this show a watch.
I've also now decided to start using terms like loo & telly in my everyday conversations because I enjoy they way they roll off my tongue.
I'm also even more committed to relearning French (I took 2 years in Junior High and 2 years in High School)... -

Based on an award-winning play ("The Audience") by showrunner Peter Morgan, this lavish, Netflix-original drama chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to modern times.
The series begins with an inside look at the early reign of the queen, who ascended the throne at age 25 after the death of her father, King George VI. As the decades pass, personal intrigues, romances, and political rivalries are revealed that played a big role in events that shaped the later years of the 20th century.

Let me begin by prefacing, I am not really a drinker. And definitely don't know my wines. In fact, due to high sulfates, I usually end up with a headache or feeling hungover after just one glass.
I do alright with whites and my favorite is moscato. However, of late, I've been really wanting to find a nice red. Maybe it's because I've been reading so much archaic vampire lore. Or maybe it's the studying of old Oxford and London where wine and whiskey seemed to be the preferred drink, outside of ale?
So, anyway, last night I picked up a bottle of Francis Coppola's Diamond Collection Merlot. No headaches and no hangover. I was drawn to it's description which promised to be, "bursting with extravagant plum and blackberry flavors framed by rich, toasty oak shadings. Intense aromatics of raspberry and blueberry lead to flavors of crushed berries, and vanilla - wrapped up in a soft, smooth tannin structure." However, I found the flavors to be quite harsh for my liking and I couldn't wait to clean my pallet afterwards.
Knowing all of this, is there a red you would recommend for me? And should I have started with a cabernet instead of merlot? Is there a specific winery or brand that is preferred?
Also, should reds be chilled or served room temperature?

I am very excited to be giving my website a refresh that is more aligned with all the things I'm currently working on.
Namely, book reviews.
While I still plan to share personal blogs about my life and writings, I will be focusing on giving some very personal and honest reviews.
As always, if you're looking for more of my fictional writings, the majority of that can be found on Medium.

I just applied at a few places but want to start putting the word out there. If you know an author or a publisher who is looking for an ARC Reader/Partner, here I am ❣ 📸 Another rainy day full of words, tea, writing, and leaves.
"A child points, and is taught a word. Tree. Later "A child points, and is taught a word. Tree. Later, he learns to distinguish this tree from all the others. He learns its particular name. He plays under the tree. He dances around it. Stands beneath its branches, for shade or shelter. He kisses under it, he sleeps under it, he weds under it. He marches past it on his way to war, and limps back past it on his journey home. A king is said to have hidden in this tree. A spirit may dwell within its bark. Its distinctive leaves are carved onto the tombs and monuments of his landlords. Its wood might have built the galleons that saved his ancestors from invasion. And all this, the general and the specific, the national and the personal, all this, he knows, and feels, and summons, somehow, however faintly, with the utterance of a single sound. Oak. Saxon word. Proto-Germanic. Cognates in Old Norse. Eik. Language is never nonsense. Language is meaning. History. Layer upon layer upon layer. And a word without meaning is what? Merely a sound." - Professor Wright, Tolkien
